Mission Statement:

We are an outreach focused ministry seeking to connect people of all ages in the Annapolis area with God and one another through a wide variety of traditional and nontradional sports and recreation. - quality programs and coaching - safe and fun activities - emphasis on teamwork, character and sportsmanship

Purpose: Start a subgroup of people interested in a specific sport or recreation activity (hiking, bowling, fishing, paintball, the sky's the limit!) with the goal of reaching others with a similar interest for Jesus.
Responsibilities: Attend an interview or training session to understand OARS ministry goals. Gauge interest in forming a club in your interest area. Plan at least 2 gatherings per year and publicize to church and community.


Purpose: To coordinate and run concessions at Rockbridge Academy basketball games hosted here at RTBC.
Responsibilities: Coordinate purchasing of snacks and drinks from Sam's. Coordinate selling of snacks and drinks at games. Help maintain order in the food court during games. Clean up snack area after the games. Oversee the accounting of spending for snacks and profits brought in from selling snacks


Purpose: To communicate and oversee the execution of the mission, vision and philosophy of OARS.
Responsibilities: To guide the leadership committee while working with church leadership and local community leadership to grow OARS and use OARS as a positive light in the community.
  • Provide passion and vision for OARS
  • Attend monthly MLT meetings
  • Make decisions about yearly OARS goals and new initiatives
  • Develop the yearly OARS budget
  • Communicate OARS happenings with church congregation
  • Oversee OARS publicity in and outside of church
  • Cast the OARS vision to church community
  • Oversees all areas of OARS


Purpose: Assist the OARS ministry in raising funds to allow the ministry to fulfill its mission.
Responsibilities: Find direct sponsors for the ministry. Find and apply for relevant grants. Complete application yearly for CFC (federal government). Plan fundraisers outside of golf tournament.


Purpose: Plan a major fundraiser for the OARS ministry. Develop relationships with golfers and local businesses.
Responsibilities: Help publicize golf tournament to church and community. Help secure sponsors from local businesses. Find items for silent auction. Help arrange for donations of giveaways and food. Prefer if you can also attend tournament and help with set-up and clean-up.


Purpose: To oversee and run the children's programming and initiatives within OARS.
Responsibilities:
  • Plan and oversee summer sports camps.
  • Plan and oversee kids clinics during the year (basketball, soccer, dance, etc...)
  • Create a visions and oversee recruitment for expanding programming (ex: into leagues...)


Purpose: Continually pursue the fulfillment of the OARS mission, vision, and philosophy in the church and local community.
Responsibilities:
  • Attend monthly MLT meetings
  • Make decisions about yearly OARS goals and new initiatives
  • Give significant input into the yearly budget
  • May also serve as an area coordinator and report back as needed
  • Continue to help refine current initiatives
  • Help market and publicize the OARS ministry


Purpose: To communicate to those in the area about OARS and its events, programs, and other Christian sports and recreation news.
Responsibilities: To write brief articles about OARS and the events we put on. Also applicable are articles on Christian sports or recreation figures.


Purpose: To lead and help organize monthly or bimonthly adult paintball outings.
Responsibilities: Help administer course rules and make sure everyone is safe playing paintball...Build relationships with those playing...Coordinate the details of making paintball events happen


Purpose: Reach elementary aged kids with the good news of Jesus through a week long multi-sport camp.
Responsibilities: Serve as a small group leader for 5-8 kids including accompanying to activities and leading 2 daily small group sessions. Or, serve as an activity leader running a station for a daily sport. Teenage (13 and up) volunteers welcome with application and training.


Purpose: The OARS website helps to communicate events and information about the ministry to people all over the world (but mostly just the area!)
