MEXICO: CLUB DUST
“Those who are far away will come and help to build the temple of the Lord… this will happen if you diligently obey the Lord your God.”
Zechariah 6:15
Beginning in 2005, Riva Trace has been blessed to be involved with missions in Tecate, Mexico, and the surrounding regions. Each summer, including this past one, Riva Trace partners with the Club Dust organization, joining hundreds of other Americans to cross the western Mexican border to build multiple homes for families of that area. Twenty-eight Riva Trace members, ranging in ages from 16-65, traveled to Mexico to serve and love the Mexican people. While there, RTBC hosts a VBS for over 200 local children, and continues construction on a local church.
Many years ago, Mexican Pastor Andres and his wife Guadalupe were led by God to purchase a small tract of land in Lomas de Pedregal, Mexico, and build a church there to spread the gospel. Guadalupe trusted in God’s promise of Zechariah 6:15 for the church she knew they were called to build. The church family in Lomas de Pedregal now ministers to many children without parents, children addicted to drugs and alcohol, and many struggling adults.
In a way that only God can work, Riva Trace came across the opportunity to help build the church that Pastor Andres and his wife envisioned years before.
In addition to the summer trip, this spring and fall, a team of men from our church headed to Mexico to work shoulder-to-shoulder with these people of great faith, which has been the custom for the past several years. While much physical labor occurred during the trip to build a church where many lives will be affected, the personal cost to many in Mexico has been great. The church is nearing completion and is a great sign of God’s faithfulness.
During the trip to Mexico, the group from RTBC saw God work in amazing ways. Seemingly impossible obstacles were overcome, and many men experienced a bond of brotherhood far stronger than they could have imagined.
This mission group and the Mexican church family are shining examples of God’s call to Christians in the book of James. “Faith without works is dead”, James writes. All involved in the building of this church, houses and hosting VBS, have coupled their faith with works through Christ to bring the Good News to the people of Tecate and Lomas de Pedregal.
