YOUTH MISSIONS:
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” - 1 Timothy 4:12
This past summer a team of twenty-four students and youth leaders journeyed to Morristown, TN on a mission to impact the Appalachian region of our country for Christ. The group collaborated with national missions organization, Adventures in Missions (AIM) in order to reach five different objectives during their time in TN: Listen in Prayer, Sharing their Faith, Building Meaningful Relationships, Meeting Felt Needs, and Debriefing and Responding.
This year Vital Link Student Ministries will be partnering with Adventures in Missions again, in fulfilling Riva Trace Baptist Church’s vision to reach Anne Arundel County for Christ. While AIM will be here for three total weeks, VLSM will be forming a team of middle school and high school students to serve during the week of July 30thto August 5thin the AA county area.
God presents this young group of missionaries many opportunities to achieve these objectives during the week through:
- Hosting VBS for over 50 local children,
- Working at local houses to scrape, paint and sand in order to serve the community,
- Cleaning up a local thrift store and organizing supplies for distribution within the community to needy children
- Perform prayer walks within the community and play a concert for the local homeless,
- Give gifts and Bibles to a local family in need,
- Host a neighborhood block party for the community.
Through all the events, it is a privilege to share God’s love and grace to his people, and often times it is members of the RTBC team who find themselves with the biggest blessing.
Of course no time with a group of teens is complete without a bit of fun. On the drive home from Tennessee, the team stopped at the Dellinger family farm in Virginia for a hayride full of food, fun, and fellowship. We will have to see what this year brings.
RTBC SUPPORTED MISSIONARIES
“It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation. Rather, as it is written: ‘Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.’” - Romans 15:20-21
Nelfa Macuja: Philippines
Since the early 1990s, Nelfa Macuja has been serving her native island in the Philippines. A member of RTBC, she was called by our Lord to return to her home and teach Sunday School in her home. Since her early time of teaching in her home, a church has been planted, a pastor assigned to it, a feeding program established for children and elderly, and a medical and pharmacy assistance program commenced.
The Dobbs Family: (Jonathan,
Lauren, Lilly, Jonny,
Braxton, and Ella) South Asia
The Dobbs family will be working to bring the gospel to an unsaved people group. Jonathan and Lauren will be working to plant a church; discipling, equipping, and training new Christians to lead the church. Immersed in another language and culture, the Dobbs family will carry the gospel in word and deed to a hurting people group.
