Food Pantry

In 1999, several ladies of our church founded the RTBC Food Pantry as a way to serve God, our church and families in need within our community. What began as a small closet that served 15-20 families a month, has grown into a full-sized pantry that serves more than 200 households every month.

As part of Riva Trace’s benevolence ministry, the Food Pantry:
  • Provides emergency food bags. There are usually four or five families assisted in this way each month.
  • Distributes food every Friday. RTBC volunteers serve these families on a weekly basis with fresh food donated by local supermarkets.
  • Conducts a monthly Pantry Day. About 20 volunteers serve between 100 and 150 families by distributing canned goods, boxed foods, frozen meats and eggs.

Interesting Facts:
  • Friday’s Food
    • Served a total of 1,625 family visits, representing 4,900 persons in the past year.
    • Total weight distributed is over 24,000 pounds of donated perishable foods from local grocery stores and farmer’s market.
  • Monthly Pantry
    • Served total of 1,500 family visits, representing 6,200 persons in the past year.
    • Total weight distributed is over 100,000 pounds of canned, dry, and frozen foods
  • RTBC donated $12,250 in funds that compliment items donated by the Anne Arundel Food Bank and the Maryland Food Bank.

The Riva Trace Baptist Church’s FOOD PANTRY MINISTRY could use your donations so we can maintain an adequate supply of both canned and non-perishable food items in the pantry on a monthly basis. These items are used each month to make food bags which are distributed to people in the community who are in need.

The Food Pantry is open for food distribution the 1st Saturday of each month from 9:30 a.m.—12:00 p.m. in the RTBC Fellowship Hall.

Donations of food are always welcome! Below is a list of items that would be appreciated:

  • Soups (not creamed)
  • Chili
  • Ravioli
  • Canned Pastas (spaghetti, spaghettios)
  • Stew
