What is MOPS?
MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers, a group designed to support mothers with children under school age, conception to age six. MOPS groups provide a friendly and fun place for mothers to relax and connect with other mothers. We socialize, encourage each other, and learn from one another how to handle this challenging season in our lives.
A typical MOPS meeting can include:
- A time for greeting new mothers
- A topic relevant to raising a preschooler or a topic applicable to women
- An opportunity to chat about that month’s topic
- Refreshments and conversation
Why Should I Join?
If you’re a mother of a preschooler (meaning that you have at least one child age 6 or under), then we believe that MOPS at Riva Trace has something to offer you. Our group provides support, encouragement, activities and fun! We also strive to connect mothers and help them develop meaningful relationships in an understanding environment.

Cathy is married to a quirky, loud, medically retired marine, named Nick. She has an impatient son, Bodhi, who showed up to the party 9 weeks early on New Year’s Eve 2018. Her first love was her wolf sized husky, Keoki. She currently works at Riva’s Preschool, wrangling 4 and 5 year olds. Cathy and Nick lived the fun adventure of living in California, Japan, and Virginia before settling down in Maryland. She has approximately 2 billion sets of chopsticks and mason jars. Cathy loves crafting, AKA purchasing craft supplies to sit around her house. A few of her favorite thing are elephants, sushi, and the color teal. She also loves purchasing seasonal decorations and being extra creative when it comes to decorating.
Katie has been married to an awesome electrician named Stephen for 3 years. She is the stay at home mom to 2 feral children. Her son is 5 years old and is always building something. Her daughter is 2 and is always climbing. Their daily shenanigans normally include some type of outdoor adventure. Katie loves torturing her husband by bringing wild creatures like tadpoles and snails into the house for extended stays. She is also in a mission to massively declutter their home to become less of a hot mess human. Some of Katie’s favorite things are watching Netflix, sleeping and drinking iced coffee. Katie is also involved in the student ministry at Riva and sort of loves it. She is currently trying to revive her love for reading in the midst of the chaos. She is also planning on beginning the adventure of homeschooling her oldest starting next school year.
Kay has been married for eight fulfilling years to a handsome and clever mapmaker who, after many years, won her heart. She wears many hats as she juggles home management and her high-energy six, four, and two year olds, along with their one year old pup Dottie. When she isn’t cooking, baking, doing laundry, cleaning, grocery shop hopping, wiping many things, playing video games, answering questions, doing crafts, swimming, conducting spontaneous home dance parties with her kids, and forgetting things in her lists, she is a part-time fashion designer, specializing in custom event gowns. Struggling to find time for old passions with new responsibilities. Running on empty, 100 mph is routine. She loves the outdoors and is relearning Spanish and brushing up on her piano skills after recently obtaining a free (!) baby grand piano.
Gina is a former Army Combat Medic who is now tackling any and every situation that comes with raising three boys. The wild things are ages 7, 5 and 2 and they love their Momma fiercely. Her sweet, amazing and brave husband Chris is her biggest supporter to encourage her and build her up. They are also a “waiting adoptive family” patiently waiting to be matched with their fourth child hopefully in the near future! Gina likes to hide out in her veggie and fruit garden that her husband built on their back deck. She enjoys doing Bible study and drinking coffee with friends while letting all the kids run amuck. Gina loves to knit while watching tv, craft, scroll Pinterest, and pretends that she can sew projects like a pro (when she makes time). Baking is a household favorite that often turns into a science project while avoiding her littlest one’s food allergies. One of her favorite things is winding down at night with a bowl of moose tracks ice cream and having a movie night with the whole gang…or just hubby.
